Today’s Newsletter 08/02/18

As was more or less expected, we lost the lot yesterday but now the temperatures are set to rise again and by the weekend, we should be fine and dandy again.

I was tempted to await going updates but with no inspections planned and it being as busy as a Saturday in terms of volume (if not quality), it’s best I get these figures out now and if need be, let you know any additional thoughts via WhatsApp and the Facebook page I’ve set up.

A good few of you have yet too be invited to join that page and that is something I will take care of this morning.

With so much racing to work with and my not having the luxury of an additional two hours to put my Newsletter together….as I would have on Saturday….you have just my figures below.

A second Newsletter, with any text I feel worth adding (we won’t have much because a good few of the races below are statistically scrawny), will go out before 10-00am….that will also go up on the www.postracing.net website in the Today’s Newsletter section, and on the Facebook wall.

Nine rated races but the most interesting horse is ZIPPLE BACK in the Huntingdon 2-50pm….first run for Harry Fry, since a wind-op, first time headgear, travelled a round trip of more than 300 miles to race here….will most likely go off favourite to complete a hat-trick because one of those at the head of the market has a preferred entry elsewhere (another problem we have at times like these).

HUNTINGDON 2-50 – CLASS 2 – HURDLE

T – DELL’ ARCA….+5
VOSNE ROMANEE….-7
* – RED INDIAN….-11
* – AZZERTI….-16
* – VISERION….-19
* – WILDE BLUE YONDER….-21
WTH – ZIPPLE BACK….-40
W – BRILLARE MOMENTO….-40 – NR
MR ANTOLINI….-40

NOTES: My figures suggested BRILLARE MOMENTO was better going to Towcester and that’s probably a good move by connections. I’m still not sure what connections of RED INDIAN are going to do but the preferred race is that the trainer of the one already pulled out, have gone for.

Until I know the make-up of this race, I’ll. not be betting….could be it needs revisiting if both go to Towcester.

HUNTINGDON 3-20 – CLASS 4 – CHASE

* – RATIFY….+8
H – GLENFORDE….-2
MINELLA FOR ME….-3
CHANTARA ROSE….-8
* – ZAYFIRE ARAMIS….-12
RUSSBOROUGH….-17
BALLY GILBERT….-25

NOTES: My top rated has three ticks but if a 14 year old wins this, the owners of those younger horses that should hopefully still be upwardly mobile, will be gutted.

Rated horses 2 & 3 sit in the front three on the tissue and I’ll just have a small dutch that pairing.

HUNTINGDON 3-55 – CLASS 4 – HURDLE

INNISFREE LAD….+17
* – HOKE COLBURN….+11
H* – BRAW ANGUS….+10
* – MOIDORE….+8
PENNYWELL….-2
* – AMBERJAM….-15
ASK CATKIN….-24
BOSS MANS LADDER….-36
BULFIN ISLAND….-40
SERPICO….-40
T – FINDUSATGORCOMBE….-40
MINELLA WHISPER….-40

NOTES: My figures “feel” right but I’m of a mind this is a wide open contest. Right now the horses rated 4 and bottom are the outsiders of the field but even they have attracted tips from the nations press pundits!

My top rated has one win from six runs over hurdles but that came on very slow ground and it may well be his success came because of the fact nothing else handled conditions.

I’d prefer to work with previous winners on soft ground, in my top six….rated horses 2, 3, 4 & 6.

I do not want more than three in my dutch and the one I’m cutting loose is MOIDORE….already 0-3 trip.

HOKE COBURN won following a wind-op and now steps up in trip, BRAW ANGUS wears first time headgear, is stepped up in trip, is a course winner (1-3 here), and 1-4 ground, whilst AMBERJAM is 2-7 ground, 1-5 trip and 1-1 track.

Not a race I’d be confident of solving at all, hence my making a conundrum out of it!

TOWCESTER 2-20 – CLASS 4 – CHASE

* – SKIPPING ON….+30
KAVANAGHS CORNER….+11
THE LION DANCER….-40
TOWER OF ALLEN….-40
WOOD PIGEON….-40
THE BAY BIRCH….-40

NOTES: I’ll just have a little straight win my top rated. Only previous winner on the ground, a + figure that’s bonkers and officially 7lb well in here on official figures.

TOWCESTER 2-55 – CLASS 3 – HURDLE

W – BRILLARE MOMENTO….+16
* – ITSNONOFURBUSINESS….+10
FAIRY POL….+9
LADY KARINA….+2 – NR
I SEE YOU WELL….-10
* – RED INDIAN….-26
BOX OFFICE….-28
* – SLEEPY HAVEN….-34

NOTES: I can make no punting plans here until I know where RED INDIAN runs….and if anyone replies, “the hunting grounds”, they’ll be given short shrift.

They have it clear favourite here right now and this is the preferred option but I want confirmation before even contemplating a punt.

TOWCESTER 4-00 – CLASS 5 – CHASE

* – LEITH HILL LEGASI….-2
GRAND INTRODUCTION….-4
* – DONTMINDDBOYS….-17
* – WISH IN A WELL….-40
BONDS CONQUEST….-40
GOLDEN MILAN….-40
T – BIG TIME FRANK….-40

NOTES: My top three front the tissue….that’s where I’ll be going for my own play here.

TOWCESTER 4-35 – CLASS 5 – HURDLE

BROTHER NORPHIN….-1
PASSING FIESTA….-16
* – BASFORD BEN….-24
H – DIRTY DEXTER….-32
T* – GONNABEGOOD….-40
FEARSOME FRED….-40
SILENT DOCTOR….-40
SPECIAL PRINCESS….-40
RIGHT ON ROY….-40

NOTES: BASFORD BEN is 2-18 groiund, 1-21 trip and 0-4 track….stats wise, he’s the grown up and this is a race I’ll pretend is not taking place….no bets here for me. Horrible wretch of a race, it is.

DONCASTER 1-55 – CLASS 4 – CHASE

TH* – BUSTER THOMAS….+18
* – POWERFUL SYMBOL….+15
* – THOONVOLLA….+ 11
* – CAPARD KING….+9
T* – GIBBES BAY….+8
TWOJAYSLAD….-16
* – AMIRAL COLLONGES….-18
ANOTHER FRONTIER….-20
* – BALLYTHOMAS….-23
T – CROWN HILL….-25
WASHED ASHORE….-36
NIGHTLINE….-40
T – GOOD MAN VINNIE….-40

NOTES: Doncaster is a track we’ll either do well at, or appallingly….no in betweens….I like my top pair here. They front the tissue, my top rated is already being punted (8/1 > 13/2), and I’m having that pair with GIBBES BAY, who travels up from Ditcheat, representing a trainer whose horses have now come out of quarantine and is hurtling along right now (8 winners from 25 runners in the last 14 days).

DONCASTER 3-30 – CLASS 3 – HURDLE

T* – FINGERONTHESWITCH….+11
T – GUNFLEET….+10
H* – ANOTHER BILL….+10
T* – SOUTHFIELD ROYALE….+8
* – NAUTICAL NITWIT….-17
* – DUELLING BANJOS….-29
W – CAKE DE L’ISLE….-40
JOIN THE CLAN….-40
CLONDAW NATIVE….-40
SIR WILL….-40

NOTES: Top trio will do….in my top three on handicap debut, GUNFLEET has really caught my eye and not only mine, either….he’s already a short priced favourite.

FINGERONTHESWITCH is 1-1 here, 1-2 ground. and 2-11 trip so, with Fehily booked to ride, and with him 3-9 record for the trainer of that one here, I’ll work with what I have.
