Today’s Ratings and Advice 02/06/17

I was very sorry to read of the situation at Kevin Ryan’s yard and the impact it has on his neighbours, including Bryan. It means the horses we are involved in are not allowed to race until this has been cleared up. Very frustrating for everyone involved with the yards concerned. Just as the season is about to get really motoring, too.

This summer NH racing experiment is looking good so far, isn’t it! One rated race, one top rated winner. I’ll not be fooled into thinking we have it right until the season is over but I’m happy with what I’m seeing.

The winner of all three races at Hamilton were in my top three rated and we kicked off with a lovely top rated winner in BRONZE BEAU, too….5/1 > 9/2

When we are seeing the figures perform as they did in that Class 6 at Lingfield, the first three home in my top four rated, then we really do look to be in business.

I was sipping round the room when that Preview selection won, too….if you are not visiting the website to read what is going up, you really should:
“Last season Ed Vaughan told Steve Taplin that TONAHUTU was his “bargain buy”. He picked this filly up for £16,000 and described her as “very forward going, mentally switched on”.

She won one, was placed second in two and this afternoon makes debut in the Lingfield 2-40. Has she trained on? I have no idea but what I do know is that Ed has booked Harry Bentley to ride her and he was on board when she won her only race as a juvenile.

When they work together at Lingfield, they have a superb record….Ed has put Harry up on six in the last five years….he has won on three of them.

Currently 7 on Betfair, I’ll go in 20/80.”

WON 9/2

However, the deal breaker, as always, is the weather. You give me settled weather, no changes in ground that could be determined significant, and I’ll give you the winners.

When the rains arrive during the day, in the quantities we often see, it’s best to sit on your hands and wait.

TODAY

I was hearing yesterday that Epsom is set to get hit by a storm early this afternoon, that will result in flash flooding. Up to 30mm of rain is set to fall in just one hour in that area and if it hits the track, then forget betting there today.

They have been watering and if it rains on watered ground you get a skating rink.

We have the feast after what was the famine today. Five meetings to look at but as you know, I’ll not look at Bath for ratings purposes. If I find a bet there it will be in the Preview section.

Two evening meetings at Doncaster and Goodwood provides us with another three rated races and the figures will go out this afternoon for those.

Given the volume of racing today the Preview and Trainer Watch sections will be completed by noon. Any lay advice will go out to Tippedtolose members around the same time.
