Today’s Ratings and Advice 30/05/17

The rains ruined everything yesterday, I’m afraid, and if I producing figures based on the ground being good to firm, and by off time it’s good to soft, you know it’s a different racing to that I’d worked on.

What always surprises me though is a trainers reluctance to take a horse out of a race, even though they are there, when they know things have turned against them and that their horse, effectively, has no chance.

A point in case is Jonathan Portman, trainer of my top rated in the Windsor 4-05. He knew the going had gone against ICKYMASHO, the filly was upset in the parade ring and sweating. Yet he let her run? She finished tailed off in a seven runner race, over 10 furlongs.

All this mares winning form had come on good to firm and all weather tracks. She clearly had an aversion to what was going on there yesterday….so why run her and leave her with, potentially, a bad memory of going racing?

Those that punted that horse had absolutely no chance of collecting and the owners might now have one that will remember yesterday.

If you have been e-mailing me using the admin@postracing.net address recently it’s quite likely I have not received it. Currently they are being forwarded from a Yahoo account and, apparently, Yahoo has been having issues. Several days last week I received nothing….not even my own copy of the daily Newsletter, then on Friday and Saturday they came through but Sunday and yesterday, same problem.

I’m now accessing my e-mail directly so that will no longer be an issue but my apologies if you have been awaiting a reply.

IT….you have no idea how much I hate the stuff. Cannot live with it, cannot live without it….but give me pen, paper and snail mail anytime!

Do you remember how much less of a hurry we used to be in before computers?

I feel a “Meldrew” moment coming on!!

TODAY

Just two meetings at Redcar and Leicester with four of those races rated.

I’m actually more interested in the juvenile races taking place at Leicester than anything else and you’ll have a decent read in the Preview section as to why.

The 3-20pm race there is also very interesting and those races are going to help us find winners as we go through the season.

Another juvenile I feel you should add to your trackers will also go up this afternoon. You have that Haggas 2-y-o already in the tracker from yesterday, I hope?

The 20 to Follow list will be going up in its entirety tomorrow. I am nothing like as happy with the 3-y-o’s this season as I have been in seasons previous and the juveniles from last season look bog ordinary to be honest. Most will end up average handicappers at best but if I can get a profit from them in that section, that’ll do.

If you are punting today it’s very much a day when minimal staking is advised. I’m going to wait and see what conditions are like before getting involved in what are four poor to very poor handicaps today.
