Today’s Preview 01/05/17

The meeting at Bath is already breaking up, eight horses pulled from what was already a limited card by way of numbers anyway.

The only race I’d even contemplate punting there is the 2-50pm.

Two horses in that race look potentially interesting:

MUTAWAKKED
SFUMATO

Not a single runner in the field has ever won of firm ground, the two that have raced previously at Bath, JUAN HORSEPOWER and BIG LACHIE, went home with nowt and the only thing they have going for them is the trip.

Of the pair, and based purely on the form of the trainer and jockey right now (Charlton having a 35% strike rate in the last 14 days and Shoemark 31% over the same period), I favour SFUMATO.

He is racing for the first time after being gelded today and is seemingly improving with racing but trying to work out how he’ll be on seasonal debut, having been missing for 243 days is anyones guess but when you also factor in that when trainer/jockey team up here they have a superb 43% strike rate (3-7), I’d side with him.

I have one at each of the Rated meetings that are also worth a mention.

Saeed Bin Suroor only sends horses to Windsor when he feels they have a genuine chance of success.

Today he has TEAM MEETING (5-30) running for Godolphin and I’m thinking the trip is absolutely spot on but….that four draw is off-putting. Unless Robert Tart can bounce him out and get across very quickly, he’s going to need to make up ground so, I’ll just watch.

The runner at Beverley I like is MISTRESS QUICKLY (5-25).

Beckett has sent this one runner on a near 450 mile round trip and with Fran Berry having won on the only previous occasion they have teamed up here, the 5.4 available now is big but, whilst I’ve been watching the market there it’s clear a lot is expected of COCONUT CREME, an Oaks entry from the Haggas yard.

Again I’m just going to keep an eye on matters.

The only play from this section today is SFUMATO.

Good luck!
