Today’s Lay Advice 16/05/17

Two blank days on what was a funny weekend of flat racing, nothing to work with at all on Sunday and yesterday’s two meetings filed under “dubious”.

I neither punted nor laid horses yesterday and they should have called Windsor off long before that 33/1 shot won the last race they allowed to be run.

It is very low grade racing again today, with the ground at Chepstow already getting slower than advertised originally. Non-runners are already filtering through because of this and with my not having a clue as to what will run right now and the potential for fields sizes to shrink further, ruining any potential draw bias, I’ll not be punting or laying there myself.

Beverley looks the best way to go for both playing and laying and in the first of my Rated races (3-00pm), we now have one trading very short in VIMY RIDGE.

It has been backed this morning but I’m struggling to see why. Sure, he has a good draw, has won on the going as was described when I rated the race and he has a first time tongue tie applied today but his wins to runs ratio is awful (3-52)….he is 1-10 on the ground, just 2-26 at the trip and already 0-1 track.

He last won a race in July 2015 and was then gelded. Since being gelded he has not won a race on either turf or sand.

This is by no means a great race but he rates 10th best on my figures and if I can lay at 4 I’ll take that.

If the tongue tie has improved him then I’ll look a lemon….been there before!

I’ll pop him on my provisional list for the moment.

That would be the only one I’m interested in today.

Best of luck
