We will most certainly not see the best of this horse until he goes steeplechasing next season but hopefully he runs a solid race under conditions that suit suit him.
News has come through from Highclere regarding a change of tactics tomorrow.
Tower of Allen (IRE)
Beneficial (GB)/Baile an Droichid (IRE)
Tower of Allen is one of sixteen runners to have been declared for The Farmers Arms Combe Florey Handicap Hurdle over two miles and three furlongs at Taunton tomorrow at 2.30 p.m.
I spoke to Nicky this morning and he said that Tower of Allen has been working well when working from the front, so he thinks that we should change tactics tomorrow and ask Nico to try and make the running if possible.
We know he is an excellent jumper so this may well be a good plan allowing him to bowl along enjoying himself and use his jumping to hopefully get the others struggling in behind him rather than holding him up.
Although Tower of Allen has struggled to be really competitive in his races to date, this is his first outing in handicap company and there could be improvement to come off his mark 106.
Of the other runners Master Burbidge was a decisive winner over course and distance on his latest start and although he has been raised 8lbs for that success he still has to be respected. Paul Nicholls is represented by Two Hoots who is going to have to show better form to be winning but he is lightly raced and, like Tower of Allen, he is a handicap debutant from a top yard.
Tomorrow’s race is going to tell us a lot about Tower of Allen as to where we are heading in the future, so it is great to have Nico de Boinville in the saddle who is not only a top class jockey but one who gives excellent feedback.
Fingers crossed we get a good run from him and that we can then look forward to him going chasing for us next season.
