I enjoyed working on the Irish Lincoln and whilst such early season races are impossible to handicap properly, a lot was right with those figures and as a “sighter”, I’ll take it.
As you would imagine, nothing in that race attracted more than a single icon. The top two rated were in the first five past the winning post and for an 18 runner Irish Handicap run on slow ground at a track I have never rated a race at before, it’s seen as a positive at this end.
I was again pleased with the Wincanton figures and those using them did ok, a nice top rated winner to start the day that was very well punted just before the off…although not by me, I have to confess.
I took a good look through the card at Hereford and decided it was simply not worth posting anything up regarding that meeting. Several of those results there were bonkers and I was pleased with that particular decision.
Once we get to April we’ll have a few early quiet days when flat racing on….then off again….on those days I’ll not provide jumps figures but I will look at those meetings to see if anything is “of interest”.
I’ll be looking back at the NH season as a whole and determining how we approach it next season, in consultation with Gary. The one thing we always have to do is adapt how we work when racing changes and for absolute certain, NH racing changed again this season.
I’m also going to be introducing a new membership package that will go live just before the next football season. More on that later.
So, let’s wind this season down and see if we cannot improve on the +188 points produced by one of Gary’s micro systems last season, that being punting a top rated winner in the ratings banding +10 to +19….I’ll definitely be trying to do so and if we can identify ways in which we might reduce the number of bets required to get there, even better.
Confirmation we race tomorrow with CABARET QUEEN at Southwell should come through today and if so, Brian and Paul will be going racing with her.
Brian was at Dan’s over the weekend and sent this over yesterday,
“CQ still planned for Tuesday and in very good form. Yard in good form as seen by 2 winners yesterday they are going to try and get Harry to 100 winner mark, he his on 80 I think now.”
I hope she has Willie Mullins thumping a table in anger at “the one that got away”.
Two meetings at Market Rasen and Plumpton have produced six rated races to look at.
It’s not great racing, you wouldn’t expect that of a Monday and if you do opt to get involved it’s the figures/icons only that are going to help today. Stats are extremely thin on the ground and the only race I myself will be getting involved in is that Plumpton 3-00.
I’ll just be playing my two highest rated in that, boasting the * icon, to October Rules levels of staking.
Once this goes out this morning I’ll be whittling down my list of flat horses for the 20 To Follow and also looking for another one to put in your trackers, that miss the cut for that list but should still hopefully prove worth looking at when it races.
I don’t know about you but the sunshine we’ve enjoyed these last couple of days has put a spring in my step….I’m a completely different bloke with the sun on my back and it’s re-charging the batteries without me needing a break right now.
Karen is off work today and so I’m thinking, if we get lucky with the sunshine again, we’ll be doing lunch at the Cowshed, in the beer garden.
