We were all put away last season when they switched Vautour to this race and ruined it as a competitive race and this year it has a slightly substandard feel to it. Normally I’d look at this race and think one or two could have gone for the big one but, not this year.
It would be one heck of a feat by Alan King if he can get Uxizandre to repeat the feat of 2015 but he looked great on his first run for close on two years and if he doesn’t bounce then I can see him reversing the form with Un De Sceaux as I don’t see that one as a true stayer, whereas the King horse will most certainly improve for going back to this trip.
The one I want to see run a massive race is Black Hercules. He looked great when winning the JLT last season and I took some funky prices about him then, for this seasons Gold Cup.
He easily beat Bristol De Mai in that race last season but he’s been disappointing since although getting beaten just 15 lengths by Douvan, over a trip way short of his best, was no mean effort.
This race normally stays at home and last season was the first in 10 years that it had gone to the other side of the Irish Sea.
I just know I’ll be drawn into a small 20/80 Black Hercules but my main play will most certainly be the horse produced by Profiling on the day.
