Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

This has been won by an Irish trained runner in six of the last 10 years and in three of the last four, with a Willie Mullins trained horse winning those three and one other.

It makes sense, therefore, to look first at what he has entered up:

I would imagine the last pair will be kept for races for mares so if Mullins is to bag another he will do it with one of either MELON or BUNK OFF EARLY.

In the past it was usual for the lesser fancied Irish runners to get their heads in front but with the firepower supplied to Mullins by Rich Ricci (Douvan and Vautour) it’s been very much the fancied horses coming to the fore.

The best novice form I have seen so far this season belongs to BALLYANDY and MOVEWITHTHETIMES, who came home first and second in the recent Betfair Hurdle (as was predicted by Profiling), but that surely only served to enhance the win potential of MOON RACER, who beat BALLYANDY in November.

But therein lies the problem with that horse. Not being seen since that win isn’t ideal but recent suggestions that they may switch the Pipe horse to the Champion Hurdle surely mean he’s fit and well?

Profiling this will be relatively simple and I’m already of a mind where we’ll be headed but it will most likely be Monday evening, 13th March, before you get to read that.

I’m quite sure the name of the winner has already been mentioned above but that first newsletter will hopefully make it a lot clearer!
