Yesterday one OF INTEREST advice, CLIFFS OF DOVER, absolutely sluiced up and could have been backed at bigger than the SP of 10/3.
2-25 – RICHARD ALLEN, WATERS & THE BRITTONS NOVICES´ HURDLE (CLASS 3) (4yo+) Winner £6,256 7 runners 2m7f208y Good
Trainer stats here indicate we should be looking to either WHOLESTONE or THREE WAYS for our winner, Twiston-Davies having a superb 32% strike rate over the last 14 days of racing and Snowden not far off on 27%.
WHOLESTONE, related to BOBS WORTH, has always been considered a serious horse and they had been looking forward to getting him going on decent ground.
he is unbeaten in both runs on genuine good ground and whilst trip/track are unknowns for him, I’m certainly favouring this horse here today.
THREE WAYS ran well when fourth to yesterday’s winner, EL BANDIT, but I’m of a mind he needs it slower so it’s a simple selection process here.
POST RACING SELECTION – WHOLESTONE – STRAIGHT WIN
4-40 – ROYAL GLOUCESTERSHIRE HUSSARS NOVICES´ CHASE (CLASS 2) (4yo+) Winner £12,512 6 runners 2m3f166y Good
now down to four runners, not one I’d be at all interested in….as we saw yesterday, in the first race on the card that also cut up to just four, it was reduced to farce, even if the right horse did win it in the end.
WHITE CHRISTMAS PARTIES AT CHELTENHAM STANDARD OPEN NATIONAL HUNT FLAT RACE (CLASS 3) (4-6yo) Winner £6,256 17 runners 2m87y Good
A race you very much need to know how the market is reacting because to try and decipher it any other way is impossible.
What I can tell you is that Nicky Henderson, who trains the clear favourite RIVER WYLDE, IS 0-15 WITH bumper runners here over the last five seasons.
No selection but I’d certainly not be backing the favourite based on stats.
2-00 – IAN ANDERSON MEMORIAL “NATIONAL HUNT” MAIDEN HURDLE (CLASS 4) (4yo+) Winner £3,249 13 runners 2m51y Good To Soft
I’m thinking Nicholls must be thinking, this is weak enough, and the going slow enough, to help BRIO CONTI, because his intention had been to send this horse over 2 miles 4 furlongs first time up.
He is 1-1 on the ground and 1-2 at the trip in Bumpers and doesn’t have much to beat so I’d be happy to row in with this one, given the form of the yard….19 winners from 37 runners in 14 days is simply staggering.
POST RACING SELECTION – BRIO CONTI – STRAIGHT WIN
2-35 – CLIFFORD & MARTIN FIRTH MEMORIAL NOVICES´ CHASE (CLASS 4) (4yo+) Winner £4,549 5 runners 2m7f96y Good To Soft
Nicholls knows how to play this game as well as anyone and by running, and winning, a race at Perth in May, he preserved WARRIORS TALE’s novice status for this season and whilst this is a tidy little race, despite only five runners, all are coming back off long breaks and for sure, nobody has their horses running better than Nicholls.
I’ll not bet myself but if they don’t go a stupid slow early pace and it’s true run, I expect Nicholls to get a double up on the first two races.
Back tomorrow with a Preview of both Aintree and Wincanton
Best of luck today
