We really have enjoyed a “purple patch” since I returned from holiday and today Post Racing members enjoyed a lovely top rated 10/1 winner in the shape of CHINA EXCELS.
We didn’t stop there though as the only other rated race of the afternoon, the Beverley 3-30pm provided us with the dutch, the “80” and a lovely 25/1 CSF.
These were the afternoon figures and advice for Beverley:
BEVERLEY 3-00 (L-M-H)
* – CHINA EXCELS….+10 – WON 10/1
* – TAFFETTA….+9
* – INCOMPARABLE….+9
§* – YPRES….+9
§* – WINDFORPOWER….+9
* – PENNY ROYALE….+8
§* – SEE VERMONT….+1
§ – RAINBOW ORSE….+1
§* – TINSILL….-7
* – RAZIN’ HELL….-7
* – MAJESTIC MANANNAN….-8
NOTES: A pair of cracking good races for us to try and get a profit from. A low draw in this one should be more important than in the race below but it may well have been wasted on WINDFORPOWER, who doesn’t seem to have developed and affinity for this track….0-9
YPRES is 0-7 and incredibly hard to win with. Just three visits to the winners enclosure in 44 races and yet, he’s often fancied to deliver. I guess 13 placed efforts only endorses that “hard to win with” quote so, that box slot might well have been wasted on him, too.
CHINA EXCELS is drawn “second best” and is 1-2 here, 2-8 on the ground and 3-18 at the trip. That one is my 20/80.
Whilst I’ve taken exception to WINDFORPOWER’s record here, I’d love to own one like him. From 78 races to date he’s won 10 and placed 27 times. His Beverley form figures read: 5, 10, 3, 4, 4, 3, 4, 7, 8….I’ll have him in my dutch and exotics.
INCOMPARABLE rates highly and has an excellent 2-8 record here. He too is drawn “second best” but is now 11 years of age, racing from out of the handicap proper and seems to be struggling these days. I’ll not be working with that one.
TAFFETTA is the one I see as a main danger, if she can overcome that 12 draw. I’m going to include her in my dutch because I’m thinking we may see a non-runner or two from those high drawn….in fact, the one drawn 15 has already been pulled.
It’s a race you could tie yourself up in knots trying to work out accurately and once you feel you have done so, you then have to rely on everything going right from the second the gates opened and….on class 5 horses running to their best.
DUTCH – CHINA EXCELS, TAFFETTA, WINDFORPOWER
20/80 – CHINA EXCELS
EXOTICS – CHINA EXCELS, TAFFETTA, WINDFORPOWER
BEVERLEY 3-30 (L-M-H)
§* – TAPER TANTRUM….+23 – 2ND 5/1
§ – REGAL WAYS….+17
* – HULCOLT….+13 – WON 9/2
HARD TO HANDEL….+10 – 3RD 9/1
§* – PUMAFLOR….+9
* – INSPECTOR NORSE….+9
* – PLANE SONG….+9
* – BORDER BANDIT….+8
* – CHISWICK BEY….-4
§ – COUNT MONTECRISTO….-17
* – ZESHOV….-26
§ – AUSPICION….-36
NOTES: Statistically, BORDER BANDIT would be the horse you would want to be with….2-6 here, 2-11 on the ground and 6-22 at the trip. HULCOLT is 3-7 here and 2-6 on the ground but 0-3 at the trip. The latter though is the better drawn.
It’s not often I find one rating as highly as TAPER TANTRUM and with ground and drawn right, I have to go 20/80 the Michael Bell trained runner. He has had a couple of pipe openers on the Chelmsford sand and returns to the Class of racing he last succeeded in on turf in August 2014. Last season he was campaigned, in the main, two grades higher and came up short. I feel he has to be competitive here.
PUMAFLOR is in my dutch. Trip and ground will not be an issue, he has a good draw to work with and will hopefully improve now back on a quicker surface. He has been running on slower ground since winning twice on good to firm in June/July last year and whilst it’s seasonal debut, I’ll trust he’s fit enough to at least hit the fame.
DUTCH – TAPER TANTRUM, HULCOLT, PUMAFLOR
20/80 – TAPER TANTRUM
EXOTICS – TAPER TANTRUM, HULCOLT, PUMAFLOR
