Those that watched young Tom Marquand plying his trade yesterday will have been nothing but impressed and if anyone rides Chepstow better, I’ve not seen them. He was absolutely brilliant on OUR QUEENIE, who landed an 11/1 winner in my dutch because that horse was in need of a ride from the second the stalls opened and he was simply magic.
At no point did that winner want to win. Even when it got it’s head in front and looked like she might win a length, she did her best to lose it and they got up by a neck.
Another jockey riding out of his skin right now is Jamie Spencer. He is a particular flavour, is Jamie and I’ve seen him lose races he should have won on horses that need a hold up ride (that’s why trainers, in the main, put him up), but he has hit a hot spot and his ride on MR LUPTON was superb. That’s a couple he has ridden for Fahey in the last week, that were the right horses for him…RIGHT TOUCH last weekend, was another and I’m now looking for that pair working together before season end.
I enjoyed my racing yesterday. Seriously pleased with my figures in that 4-15pm when my top pair came home first and second and a nice enough straight win play was landed.
Plenty of racing but strange to find just one race from each of the meetings at Chester, Doncaster and Salisbury qualifying for Rating. More to work with from Sandown though and we’ve seven races in total.
Lots of work to get stuck into today and 500 Club members will receive a second Newsletter today advising of another opportunity to get involved in a smaller syndicate. A horse in training with Nicky Henderson offers something worth further investigation.

NOTES: My second highest rated has yet to race on this ground or over this trip….a 3-y-o that it 1-2 at Chester and well drawn, it’s in my dutch. DEAUVILLE PRINCE has a poor box to break from and as much as I respect my figure regarding that one, I’m working with rated horses 2, 4 and 6….two with draw and ground right they are dutched, it’s a 20/80 APOSTLE and exotics.

NOTES: My top rated has the worst of the draw and with seven x 3-y-o’s in here it’s been labelled “tricky!”. I’ll just have a 20/80 HANNINGTON but will not be in the least bit surprised to see one of the younger horses whizzing in. ROBINS PEARL is the highest rated 3-y-o….we’ll all be wiser after the event.
