He is on a run of bad luck right now…all punters know about them but, in this weeks Weekender, he has gone off a a right old rant.
He wants horses like LITIGANT banned from running in races like the Ebor because they had not raced on turf for around four years and, had not run at all for 18 months.
He wants horses like WADI AT HATTAWI banned from running for a set period of time, much like a non-trier would be banned, because it had pulled up in the Ebor, before winning seven days later.
I’ve heard/read some things coming from the mouth/pen of someone unable to find a winner and suffering some wretched luck but what next?
Should we ban Chester from having double figure fields in sprint races? Should we do likewise to Beverley and Goodwood?
I imagine Joe Tuite would be a tad miffed if he was suddenly told he couldn’t run the horse he had effectively nursed back to form over a long period of time, whose owner had obviously shown great patience in letting his trainer do that work, from running in a big race because punters might not back it….or might end up backing a loser because he couldn’t see that winner, winning.
Basically what he is saying is, “I couldn’t find those winners and they stopped me backing a winner”.
Crikey, that happens to me every single day!
I find working with handicaps containing 3-y-o’s running against their elders complete minefields at times but I’ll not be calling for 3-y-o’s to be banned from competing in all aged handicaps just because one beats mine into second.
I had a chance to leave that race alone because of the horse/horses I couldn’t work out…so did Tom but, a wrong call is made and that’s punting life.
