Yesterday morning our phone line went off just after 9-00am and with it out internet access. I looked out of my office window and saw a BT Openreach van across the road and reasoned they were doing some work and had disconnected the line to do whatever it was they were doing.
I took Karen out for lunch and when we returned that van had gone. Came upstairs to my office to finds the lot was till off. We had noticed several other BT vans in the vicinity and with plenty of new development going on in our area, simply thought we’d be off until they knocked off for the day.
At around 6-00pm and now sign off “life” I rang BT on my mobile phone to make enquiries. After hanging on for about 15 minutes I got through to India and was advised of two things. One was, no scheduled work was taking place and…”as you pay you landline bill to Sky, we cannot help”.
I rang Sky and was hanging on for about 20 minutes until I had visions of the bill that was accumulating. I called my son and asked him to contact them, which prompted them to call me.
We then went through 40+ minutes of doing “diagnostics” to ensure the issue was external. I had told them it would be but paperwork had to be completed.
The operator at Sky concluded I was probably correct and he then created an appointment time for this morning….for BT to come out?
A young lady arrived at 9-10 this morning, plugged a gizmo into our telephone socket and this indicated the issue was located on the telegraph pole….which their engineer had been working on yesterday. It appears he had accidentally knocked us off when doing whatever it was he had been doing.
She then had to locate an engineer who was not busy, who had access to a cherry picker because our telegraph pole has red stickers on it, which indicates it’s dangerous to work on using ladders. An hour after that call, a bloke arrives with said cherry picker…the same bloke that had knocked up off yesterday.
I will now be reactivating the dongle I had when I was working for those two months in hospital, which may or may not ever be used in anger but at least that back-up will be there.
Happily the rated races today all kick off later in the afternoon/evening.
Please find below ratings for seven races and hopefully those for Goodwood are as good as yesterday. That last race from there was superb:

NOTES: I’ll be looking to work with rated horses 1, 2 and 4 with my solo play going to DANA’S PRESENT. Again we have just a brace of these having won previously on the ground they’ll have this afternoon and one winking at me is HANNINGTON. Never raced on this kind of ground, never previously visited Goodwood but, 3-7 at the trip and, well drawn!
After a decent double figure priced placed horse in the opener there punted 20/80 I came so very close to a smashing 33/1 winner and more than decent exotic.

§* – BEAU MISTRAL….+8
H* – PANDAR….+5
* – COMANCHE….+4
§* – DIVINE CALL….+/-0
§ – RIGOLLETO….-12
NOTES: DIVINE CALL did us a 20/1 turn not so long ago and it’ll be in my dutch….BEAU MISTRAL and PANDAR in the dutch. The 20/80 is BEAU MISTRAL’S and I’ll mess about with exotics if the divi looks worth all the bother.
Have a brilliant day and the best of luck
