Today’s Ratings and Advice 09/08/15

Ron RobinsonWith their being so much racing right now, I’ve taken to keeping an eye on how the guys doing the “flagship” tipping over at the Racing Post have been doing. I’m speaking of the likes of Paul Kealy, Tom Segal (the main men in that tome) etc, that are responsible for the Pricewise section and the main tipping section each day of the week.

Tom has gone missing. Whether by design or he’s just on holiday I’ve no idea but Paul has donned his tin hat and carried on the fight. Pietro Innocenzi took over Tom’s column in the Weekender, posted seven selections due to run from Wednesday onwards and found four losers and three non-runners.

It is fair to say winner finding is difficult right now. I’ve been happy with my figures and the e-mails I received from Jane and Joy in midweek, advising they had topped up her holiday funds nicely, Jane by close to £1700, courtesy of a £2 trifecta on the top three rated in one of those races that day we struck gold, are due for framing.

A note has been made each day, Monday to Saturday of last week, of the selections/results produced by those tipsters named in the Racing Post and it it makes for unhappy reading.

They have produced 22 advices across those six days and secured three winners 3/1, 10/11 and 7/4. One non-runner and one placed yesterday (advised e.w. @ 16/1….placed 11/1), added to those winners = a loss on the week of 7.54 points.

Added to their big losses of last week, which were accumulated at Goodwood and Galway, and it’s no surprise Tom has taken a break.

The reason I’m telling you this is to simply advise that no matter how good someone might be at doing something, their will be days when nothing can, or will, go right. What was also evident from keeping those records over the last week was that the second half was much worse than the first….for all of us. The first three days of last week were brilliant for us and Racing Post tipping had two winners and a non-runner going into Thursday but since then, punches have been taken.

A look back at yesterday’s figures:

HAYDOCK 1-50

T§ – SI SENOR….+12
* – NO POPPY….+11

§ – MUJAZIF….-3 – NR
T§ – APOSTLE….-8
§ – EUTROPIUS….-18
HANSEATIC….-18
T – EARLY MORNING….-23 – WON 4/1

NOTES: This is now a completely different race to that I worked on initially and I will try to revisit it.

RESULT – I didn’t get an opportunity to take another look at this and left it alone but I doubt very much it would have made a blind bit of difference.

HAYDOCK 2-20

* – INGLEBY ANGEL….+9 – 6TH 20/1
* – SENNOCKIAN STAR….+8 – 3RD 8/1
THE CHARACTER….+6 – 2ND 16/1 > 11/1
* – MASTER OF FINANCE….+2 – NR
T – GINGER JACK….-3
* – MIKA MIKA….-5 – NR
* – SILVERY MOON….-6
T* – BASATEEN….-6
T* – REMBRANDT VAN RIJN….-10 – WON 7/2
* – AMOOD….-16
T – FESTIVE FARE….-33
ZAND….-37
T – GREEN LIGHT….-40

RESULT – Before this one I was of a mind my figure for the winner might be wrong and he won this like a higher level than handicapping beckons.

HAYDOCK 4-35

T – SPEEDY MOVE….+9 – WON 9/2
T§* – MIDNIGHT RIDER….+8
BALLESTEROS….+3 – NR
§* – RUSTY ROCKET….+3
§* – NEZAR….+2 – 2ND 7/2
* – FANTASY JUSTIFIER….-1
* – SECRET ASSET….-3
T§ – BELVOIR DIVA….-7
T – DOMINATE….-20
* – SECRET WITNESS….-25
H – STRAITS OF MALACCA….-34
CURZON LINE….-40

NOTES: MIDNIGHT RIDER is one of four having got the T§* icons today and I have to run up my 20/80 MIDNIGHT RIDER. Paul Green’s in form RUSTY ROCKET and NEZAR have joined him in the dutch – and the exotics.

RESULT – A three year old topped my figures and I should have included it in my play purely on that basis. I didn’t and lost money.

HAYDOCK 5-05

T* – COMPTON HEIGHTS….+/-0 – WON 6/4
VERY FIRST BLADE….-4
* – THATCHERITE….-5
* – BEAU MISTRAL….-5
* – BRONZE BEAU….-5
RYAN STYLE….-6
SLEEPY BLUE OCEAN….-8
RED FOREVER….-17 – NR

RESULT – Top rated won as easily as he liked. Two of the four top rated here won so as I mentioned above, I was happy enough with how my figures are performing.

NEWMARKET 2-30

T* – SPIRIT OF THE LAW….-2
* – DREAM SPIRIT….-8
BLUE WALTZ….-12
AZMAAM….-16
PUZZLE TIME….-20
STEPPE DAUGHTER….-32
WHAT ABOUT CARLO….-40
SHARP SAILOR….-40 – WON 4/1
SOLO HUNTER….-40

RESULT – One of the two 3-y-o’s in the field won this and I was listening to the lads on RUK talking about how well punted this had been. Dave Nevison commented that no way on his book was this horse a 4/1 shot. Seems I’m not the only bloke struggling to put these 3-y-o’s on the correct pegs!

NEWMARKET 3-05

* – ATHLETIC….+12 – 5TH 20/1
* – MAJESTIC MOON….+12
§* – ROYAL SEAL….+12
§* – BURN THE BOATS….+10 – NR
T§* – RENE MATHIS….+10
* – FLASH FIRE….+9
T* – MAMBO PARADISE….+9
* – MIME DANCE….+8
* – MEZZOTINT….+5
BUCKSTAY….-1 – WON 4/1
T§* – JACOBS BLACK….-15
* – LUNAR DEITY….-18
* – TAMAYUZ STAR….-20
OUTER SPACE….-37
§ – LACAN….-40

NOTES: I’m liking ROYAL SEAL here. Even after last night I still feel high is best. I’m trusting 3, 4 and 5 here, dutched. As much as I’m liking ROYAL SEAL we do have one having copped for the three icons and they have performed well recently so my 20/80 goes to RENE MATHIS….exotics again.

RESULT – I got nowhere near this favourite and results suggest I read this meeting wrong.

REDCAR 3-20

T§* – ORDER OF SERVICE….+11
§* – RODRIGO DE TORRES….+10 – WON 13/2
§* – FAVOURITE TREAT….+9
* – SUGAR LUMP….+8
§* – MAUREB….+6
§ – SLEMY….+1
§* – LAZARUS BELL….-4
§* – JACQUOTTE DELAHOYE….-5
§* – LE LATIER….-8
* – JUST PAUL….-10
* – MERCERS ROW….-11
MILLKWOOD….-19
T* – INTREPID….-20

NOTES: As i said earlier, I am loving the look of this meeting and hopefully my figures help me drag a profit from it. I’m thinking middle drawn are compromised and my top two give us one either side so I’m happy they are in my dutch.

I’m going top three for the dutch itself and we’ll have RODRIGO DE TORRES as my 20/80 – low drawn have a marginal…and I mean marginal….edge and two of that trio are over there.

I’ll work them into my exotics, too.

RESULT – I was sitting here prepping today’s racing when this went off and celebrated with yet another cup of coffee after this hit the back of the net. A very easy winner and I knew this would be the meeting I’d take a profit from.

REDCAR 3-55

§* – HIDDEN REBEL….+10
T* – KARAKA JACK….+10
§* – ELLAAL….+10
§* – BLING KING….+7
* – BAHAMIAN C….+6
§* – EXCLUSIVE WATERS….+3
§* – WOODY BAY….+2
* – THORNABY NASH….+/-0
§* – RELIGHT MY FIRE….-1
§* – ALMUHEET….-3
OBSIDIAN….-12
§* – PUSH ME….-15

NOTES; My 8-y-o grandson would be all over OBSIDIAN….it’s a metal mentioned a lot in one of the computer games he plays and I once had a 20 minute chat about something of which I know nothing. I do believe though, that low is the place not to be here and if he fancies a natter about this OBSIDIAN, I’m all ears. If I’m right and he is poorly drawn, that married to my rating and the fact he’s not won on this ground yet gives this favourite a bit of work to do.

My top rated is the only 3-y-o in here, tops my figures and drawn well….three year olds have been wrecking my head and they owe me one….hopefully this one.

I’m going dutch rated horses 1, 3 and 4, a 20/80 my top one and exotics.

RESULT – You know when you take something for granted, it will jump up and bite you on the backside. I had advised a lay of OBSIDIAN over on Tippedtolose and provided several very secure reasons why we could do that. I punted my top rated, and that celebrating done 30 minutes earlier was now a drowning of a sorrow.

We have enjoyed several “double whammy’s” over there, backing a winner and laying the favourite in the same race but the game that is gambling can be a great leveller.

REDCAR 4-55

CLASSIC SENIORITY….+13 – 5TH 25/1
T§* – HEAD SPACE….+11
§* – VALLARTA….+10
T* – FUNDING DEFICIT….+9 – WON 8/1
§* – APROVADO….+8 – 4TH 8/1
§* – ADAM’S ALE….-4 – 3RD 14/1
* – WHOZTHECAT….-8
* – SHIPYARD….-10
EL VIENTO….-12
* – MISHAAL….-12
* – DISCLOSURE….-13
* – IN FOCUS….-19

NOTES: I have to work solely with low drawn here and the headaches that is HEAD SPACE finally recovered the form he once had when trained by Ruth Carr. He’s a rogue though and punting him can seriously damage your wealth. I’m going to be brave….a dutch rated horses 2, 3 and 5, the 20/80 HEAD SPACE and exotics.

RESULT – HEAD SPACE finished plum last. One horse that does it only when he feels like and I know the next time he wins, I won’t. Four of the first six home in my top six so the figures were ok, just woeful selection making.

AYR 6-40

T* – JAY KAY….+12 – WON 10/3
T§ – LADY RANGER….+11 – 2ND 5/2
§* – MONEL….+10
T§* – POMME DE TERRE….-1
OPT OUT….-5
T – ECHO OF LIGHTNING….-14
T – INTENSIFIED….-24
T – NORVILLE….-27
H – CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT….-28
T§ – PENELOPE PITSTOP….-40
A LOVABLE ROGUE….-40

RESULT – Top two rated, first two home and I’ll always settle for that.

AYR 7-10

MICHAEL’S MISSILE….+10 – 4TH 10/11
* – GONINODAETHAT….+5 – 2ND 5/1
* – ROCK CANYON….-4 – 3RD 10/1
* – BLUE SONIC….-11 – WON 5/1
CHEENI….-15
MYSTICAL KING….-30
T – PERFECT WORDS….-40

RESULT – Top four rated, first four home but another double sickener because I had advised BLUE SONIC a lay and punted the runner up….a short head between being a hero and a villain.

AYR 7-40

* – CLASSY ANNE….+9
T – RITA’S BOY….-5
* – BUNCE….-7
T – GOWANHARRY….-11 – WON 6/4F
* – GO GO GREEN….-15
T* – ECONOMIC CRISIS….-21
T – DREESE….-22
T – ONE BOY….-26

RESULT – That winner had been backed all day long and Paul Mulrennan, who is riding superbly well this year, made certain the gamble was landed. I wasn’t on!

LINGFIELD 6-20

GROUNDWORKER….+8 – 2ND 8/1
* – WELEASE BWIAN….-3
* – SHAMAHAN….-11
GREAT EXPECTATIONS….-19
LANGLEY VALE….-21
RASHASH….-24
GUNG HO JACK….-27

RESULT – Close to a nice 8/1 winner for those that run with the top rated but done 1/2 a length.

Bitty is the best way to describe it.

TODAY

Two meetings and five rated races to work with but we are heading off out for a walk and I’ll not be betting myself. We purchased proper walking shoes when we visited Scotland recently and it’s one of the Wirral walks that have a pub at the end of it that gets my attention this afternoon.

* – INCOMPARABLE….-2
* – CHINA EXCELS….-15
LAURA B….-20
GO CHARLIE….-40
DELYSDREAM….-40
T – MARGOT ROSE….-40

NOTES: Another 3-y-o tops my figures here and is on a hat-trick. Unless one of the other younger ones improves past it, again I’d expect it to be difficult to beat.

WINDSOR 3-45

MEHRONISSA….+8
* – ELEUSIS….-2
AIR OF MYSTERY….-6
CAPE XENIA….-7
* – MONARCH MAID….-10
LADY HORATIA….-19
* – PRINCESS TANSY….-40

NOTES: Yet another 3-y-o sits up top. To be honest with more of that age group than older horses contesting the rated races today, it’s not surprising. Not a race i’ll play myself but no shock if the figures prove right.

WINDSOR 4-15

* – WEKEYLL….+12
LAIDBACK ROMEO….-2
ENERGIA FLAVIA….-10
MYWAYALWAYS….-16
INTRUDE….-17

WINDSOR 5-15

* – NOCTURN….+9
KASSBAAN….+8
* – ABSOLUTE CHAMPION….-9
* – BURNING THREAD….-15
* – SANDFRANKSKIPSGO….-23
BOUCLIER….-40

NOTES: Sitting second best is a 3-y-o….no, really!….and the tissue has it trading favourite. I’m thinking the younger horses will hold sway today.

Have a brilliant day and the best of luck

Kindest regards

Ron
