Today’s Ratings and Advice 19/05/15

Ron RobinsonIf you make looking at those going guides below the very first thing you do, you will understand that I may well have sat here for several hours yesterday, for nothing.

Chepstow reports they suffered 6mm yesterday, that their going is now soft but, that they could not use a going stick to gauge it properly, as it is under repair.

Nottingham copped for 7mm Sunday night into Monday morning and they report good, good to soft in places but, that they expect heavy showers today whilst Newcastle (currently good to firm) suggests they believe showers, some heavy and that if what they expect arrives, it will result in a further ease in the going.

Caught between a rock and a hard place I am. With 10 races rated it smacks of a complete waste of time given what will probably happen. Would you still use my work even if I give it to you?

I wouldn’t, not until we know exactly what has happened, is happening and might yet happen.

The same thing applies to OF INTEREST selections. I could tell you what I believe will be running decent races now but, come off time, they may well have been shackled…if not withdrawn.

I’ll not attempt to guess what might happen and produce figures based on that guessing so below you have what I currently have but I have applied no text.

My advice today is, if you are not in a position to reassess the situation regarding the ground, do not bet using the figures.

TODAY

I will spend my time constructively this morning. I now have everything I need to create the pages on the Clatterbridge Sensory Garden website www.sentire.co.uk and my mission is to have that ready to collect donations by the end of the day.

I am also looking into several juveniles I have been advised are going to be more than competitive this season. The “word on the street” yesterday was that the Roger Varian trained Gwendolyn was expected to win last night….hence its place in my OF INTEREST section. Poor old Matt Chapman of ATR has also been told what was expected to happen and, having gone racing with the intention of supporting Dream Dreamer, found himself sucked in by those rumours and changed his allegiance.

His initial thought had been spot on and Dream Dreamer blitzed in by over four lengths whilst poor Gwendolyn found it all to much on debut and weakened into fourth.

Speaking of dreaming….

I sent this out last night but for sure some will have missed it:

I made mention of the fact that former professional footballer and sky TV pundit Don Goodman, a patron of the children charity Promise Dreams, is shortly going to undertake a marathon golfing session to raise funding for what is a brilliant charity that fulfils the dreams of terminally and seriously ill children.

I’ll let Don explain in his own words:

“Dear All

In just over a month, I have committed to attempt an astronomical golfing challenge on behalf of my beloved charity Promise Dreams along with my good friend and captain of Stourbridge Golf Club, Rob Walsh.

Rob has very kindly adopted Promise Dreams as his nominated charity whilst he is captain of Stourbridge and has already raised an incredible amount of money (thank you to all at Stourbridge) and I must confess it was his idea that we attempt this madness but as you all know, I can be a little mad at times and remain passionate and committed to the terminally and seriously ill children and families that we strive to help. So can you help me please?

The challenge:

On the 22nd of June myself and Rob will be undertaking the four country golf challenge. This will be an 18 hole round of golf in four countries in one day! We will be starting in Dublin at around 4am and we will then travel to Liverpool. After many a mile on the road, we will then play Prestatyn in Wales, Carlisle Golf Club in England and then Powfoot in Scotland. A normal round of golf can take upwards of three and a half hours so that will 14 hours of golf in total plus travel! So as you can imagine, it will be a tiring physical challenge (although Rob’s in great shape as you can see on our promo photo on Just Giving!) and an emotional challenge (for Rob having to spend 24 hours with me!!).

I am attaching a link to our Just Giving page and I would very much appreciate it if you are able to make a donation towards our cause. Every little helps, £1, £5, £10, whatever you feel able to give will be greatly appreciated. Also if you could pass this on to anyone who you feel may want to support us or know anyone who may like to discuss any form of sponsorship, then please let me know.

The link is: https://www.justgiving.com/fourcountrygolfchallenge/

Thank you in advance to all.

Cheers

Don”

Post Racing will be visiting the page and make a donation because, at the end of the day, helping charitable causes, be they horse racing related or none horse racing related and when Don’s brother, Dave, who has been a member of Post Racing for a fair old while contacted me to help with this, I was only to willing to do so.

If you, or someone you know, is doing something that helps others then let me know. I will make sure there entire membership…subscribed and unsubscribed, knows of it.
