As mentioned in yesterday’s Newsletter, I will provide members with the last eight of the 20 to follow today. By the weekend I hope to have them on the website but with meetings left right and centre over the next few days, it’ll be tight!
Following my Newsletter of yesterday I had just one e-mail containing anything negative….a fair few had me blushing!
Given the numbers we have as members, one e-mail is pleasing. That e-mail actually contained several inaccuracies and I made a point of responding as soon as I got to my desk this morning because it is important to me to do that. I Fully understand that no matter what I do, someone will always be unhappy because as I have found in any job I have ever done, it is impossible to please everyone. All I can do is what I do and this will all end up where it ends up.
It means I’m a bit behind so I will keep this brief.
Yesterday was a bit of a washout. The rains changed the going at Catterick, the race I had been looking forward to most saw three non-runners which changed the entire shape of the race. Brighton copped for 23mm of rain overnight (sounds like our southern friends had monsoon like weather!), and the winds they had to face down there almost caused the meeting to be abandoned. I opted to simply sit on the profits made to date and let it just happen.
I am sure we were advised the flat racing season has started?
Yesterday there was more action going on over jumps than we had on the flat, today we have two meetings supporting both codes but, tomorrow we have four NH meetings and just Chester representing the flat.
Brighton and Chester today and we’ll see how things pan out.

NOTES: The most interesting race being run here today but only because it (currently), contains enough runners for me to have spotted up a draw bias….high just favoured over the rest. We have four runners having won previously on the going as currently described – JAY BEE BLUE, JACKPOT, WORLD RECORD and VENUS MARINA – and with three of them in my top six and two of them having also spotted up a decent draw to race from, I will look to work with that trio and see if I can nail a profit from a Class 6 race that has not a lot of punting appeal at all.
Only two have managed to win here previously – KAKAPUKA and BORN TO FLY – and of that pair the one marked “T” is most interesting but only because he has only failed once on this ground….0-1….whilst KAKAPUKA is 0-4 on this ground.
If that one sitting second best had been drawn high I might have been a bit more enthusiastic about punting but 2 worries me.
Weird seeing Timmy Murphy’s name on a flat card, isn’t it! He rides JAY BEE BLUE, who is well drawn, goes on the ground but, 80% of his winning form has come on sand and the lone turf win came close on two years ago. Good luck to him though.

NOTES: A good draw (low), is vital here and my top rated quite simply has everything spot on. If you give this horse Chester, a low draw, five furlongs and good to soft ground, he is unbeaten here. Today he has all those ingredients and on board is one of the best “riders from the front”, that I have ever seen. Second only to Steve Cauthen.
It all save me time discussing this race because if he fails today, I will lose a few shillings.
