Today’s Ratings and Advice 17/04/15

Ron RobinsonWe have our cottage booked and I’m away from Saturday 25th – May 2nd. Karen and I will be taking the dog away for a week of walking and fresh air.

I’m going to be easing off here from Monday though and whilst you will receive ratings, they will go out mid morning. It takes me around a week to learn how to relax again and Karen has issued a “get chilled before we go away!”, warning. That means those monks that get me up each morning will be muted and I’ll get up when I wake up naturally.

As I mentioned recently I have had one week “off” since October 2013 and as I spent those seven days driving an old Daewoo around Crete last October, it was hardly relaxing!

Each evening, whilst I am away, you will receive a Newsletter containing the names of the remaining 20 to follow list. As you know, I am never “off duty” and will be doing other bits and bobs that will hopefully help us all profit this summer.

The figures yesterday were again spot on. The biggest flat race of the afternoon was this one:

RIPON 3-05

T – PUZZLE TIME….+14 – 2ND 22/1 > 20/1
* – SAN CASSIANO….+7
* – FLOW….+/-0 – 6TH 9/2
* – CHANCERY….-1 – WON 9/1
* – SILVERY MOON….-10 – 3RD 7/1
* – HIT THE JACKPOT….-11 – 5TH 16/1
* – MASTER OF FINANCE….-15
DANCE KING…..-24
NONCHALANT….-35
INNOCENT TOUCH….-38
LESHA….-40
SPIRIT OF THE LAW….-40

NOTES: My top rated horse is an all weather specialist but the one win on turf came here. Only four runs on turf to date it’s impossible to say what suits best but four runs on grass have yielded a win and a place. Track and trip look good for SAN CASSIANO, six wins from 29 attempts over 10 furlongs and a 20% strike rate at Ripon. Ruth Carr has started the season brilliantly and those winning after a first run are plenty.

The interesting one is FLOW. He won over this CD last May, for Lady Cecil, beating SAN CASSIANO and he ran a cracker on seasonal debut when finishing 6th in the Spring Mile, finishing off well over the shorter trip, on slightly quicker ground. He has won or placed on 50% of his turf runs and on slightly slower, over slightly further, I’d anticipate a big run.

This is the better race of the two rated here today and hopefully the numbers will perform.

I simply have to be happy with those numbers. My top rated has run a blinder, the top six rated included the first five home, and the first three past the post were in my top five.

What I have decided to do is include, as notes, my thoughts on what will qualify as the best race each day. The Ratings tell us what should happen if all horses run to their merits (which very rarely happens), and I will be advising you of which horses are most likely to do this. This will be in addition to “My Play”.

AN EVENING WITH AP MCCOY

TODAY

It’s the first of the twilight meetings at Bath and two of my rated races are to be run after 7-00pm. The other (only three today), is that Newbury 3-55. Only seven runners but a good little race and I love Newbury!

Before lunchtime 500 Club members will have received a Newsletter from me advising what we are doing over the next five months. I am looking at several options right now and during the week before I go away several appointments will have been made to visit trainers in the week after I get back.

THE PICK3 COMPETITION

As you know, we run a competition each weekend over at The Goal Posts.

Membership of that website is part of your package and you can play this competition free so, why are you not doing so?

Click here to get involved this weekend. Because we have a limited Premiership programme I have opted to double the part of the prize that will hopefully see a member eventually win £1MILLION.

This weekend Maverick01uk will be playing for £1M as part of his prize for winning last weekend. The second part of his prize will be a free £10 treble on the following:

Crystal Palace (home), Swansea (away) & Man City (home) – PAYS £80.75 (bet placed with ladbrokes).

20 TO FOLLOW

I’ll be sending out the name of the 3rd of these horse today. An unexposed one that will definitely win a handicap or two this summer.

TIPPEDTOLOSE

The logo has now been sorted….

On Monday, May 4th I will commence this new service and will be advising of subscription fees etc, once the website is completed.

It’s over at www.tippedtolose.co.uk

I’ll be working on the website over the next 10 days and will have in place what will be needed by the time we go live.

FINAL FIGURES

NEWBURY 3-55

* – NOBLE STORM….+/-0
* – LUCKY BEGGAR….-2
* – STEPS….-5
T* – ROBOT BOY….-7
* – NORMAL EQUILIBRIUM….-17
BOOM THE GROOM….-30
GREEN DOOR….-40

NOTES: The “old man” of the party tops my figures but for sure, he has his ground, three wins from nine attempts on it to date. Four of the horses nine wins on turf have come in April/May, and he’s 1-1 at Newbury….this race in 2011. He was probably at the peak of his powers then. The only “traveller”, Robot Boy, has tried 10 times to win on good to firm and managed just one. I’ve mentioned previously that Barron has his “nearly there”….most placing first time up and they’ll come good soon enough. Three of his four wins have come in June (did break his maiden in April, 2013), and maybe a placing at best for him? STEPS has never won first time up, is 0-7 on good to fast and two previous trips to Newbury were fruitless. LUCKY BEGGAR won this race last season, but it was good to soft that day. His trainer is quoted as saying that recent run at Doncaster was needed and a bit of cut will help him. Unless it chucks it down, he’ll not get it. Normal Equilibrium finds it harder to win than a one legged man in a hopscotch competition, Boom The Groom has been campaigned on all weather and that’s probably where he belongs and Green Door has not won a race since 2013. Very consistent though but my figures indicate it’s probably another day for him. I’d be with horses rated 1 & 4.
