I expect nothing from either of the two races being run at my favourite racecourse today. That doesn’t mean we won’t get something, as the figures have been just plain weird so far this month!
Only my top rated has winning form at Newbury although 10 of them have never raced here before. Of those 10 the most interesting has to be the very lightly raced SPARK PLUG, who is unbeaten when racing on this ground and also 2-2 over a mile. He has won on seasonal debut on each of the two seasons he has raced but is simply impossible to rate higher off the back of just five runs. He has a prime draw (if I am reading this correctly), and his trainer is 3-6 with his runners on turf in April….another ran second. Brian Meehan is actually 3-5 in the last four days.
HIGHLAND COLORI is also interesting having also nailed a good draw to run from. His form on seasonal debut, from age four, is decent enough….2, 4, 4 and his trainer too has started the new season well enough, 10 runners on turf in April providing three winners.
Lincoln winner GABRIAL has copped for a draw I consider 2nd best….I do not want a low box….and his “match fitness” obviously entitles him to run well.
They would be my three against this field at this point in the season.
