Today’s Ratings and Advice 07/02/15

Ron RobinsonThat was as full a day as I have had in a long, long time.

It’s no coincidence that I’m finding it easier to put a shift in as my medication decreases and I am finding I can get more done. Actually felt like I could have pulled a train yesterday and those around me will probably find me most annoying until this “buzz” wears off!

I failed to get the evening Newsletter out again last night but I didn’t actually complete the prep figures until 9-45pm and it was the current situation with the website that set me back a couple of hours plus, I also had to visit our accountant and, most importantly, get the Podcast done.

If you have not yet listened to Sean and I blabber on about horse racing, give it a shot, let us know what you think.

Yesterday we covered a fair few things. We had received a message from a member who was asking us which trainers we thought were “at it”, looked at the perils of ante-post betting, chatted about the fact Hen Knight was back amongst the training ranks (I actually suggested that Teaforthree was a good thing for that Bangor Hunter Chase yesterday so, if you listened in before that race went off you may have played), we announced this weeks Podcast Comp winner and asked you another question.

Jeff Barton (morning again, Jeff!) has a free £10 bet on my top rated in the Betfair Hurdle this afternoon so if that turns out right by heck he has a wedge coming his way!

I also announced that we have no Podcast next week as our man is off skiing but, what I will be putting in place for the one we’ll do 20/02/15 is a Cheltenham Podcast comp, the winner will have a £20 e.w. five horse Cheltenham Accumulator as their prize. You can either pick them yourself or, Sean and I will get our heads together and make those selections for our winner.

We also advised that on the evening before each day of the Festival we will have a Podcast set up and online so that you can hear our thoughts on the days racing to come.

SEAN TRIVASS

Sean has posted up a cracking good article and hopes are high (at his end anyway!), that he can follow up last weekends 6.6/1 CSF!

Grab a brew and give it a read!

TODAY

Family coming over for a humungous curry night which we’ll enjoy as we watch Liverpool beating Everton at Goodison.

I’m very concerned about the current going descriptions we are receiving right now. in the last two days we have seen some (as far as I am concerned), very strange results. Nine of the 11 rated races over that two day period have been won by horses that had not previously won on the going as officially described when I prepped my work.

I simply cannot account for horses such as Jaunty Flight, bottom rated on -40 yesterday, breaking its maiden at the 11th attempt and, indeed, the first three home in that race had never previously won on what we had been told they would race on.

The fact is, that meeting required three inspections before it was allowed to go ahead. I explained yesterday that when a frost comes out of the ground it’s not like it has rained on it….that actually makes it easier to run through. Instead it turns the ground to glue and the jockeys announced after the first race that it was “very tacky”.

Newbury have had covers down but have, somehow, called soft, good to soft today and yet advise that because of the covers, they have not been able to take a stick reading. How then, can they have given an accurate going description?

It’s just “that time of year” I’m afraid. You make one of two decisions…play, or stay away. I have chosen to do the latter.

One of our number is going to Warwick today with friends (morning again, Andrew!), and I have promised to look at each race there.

Right now they have advised soft but they too have been unable to provide a reading due to covers. It went to -4 overnight, they hold an inspection at 8-00am and I’m extremely loathe to say anything about anything because I’m guessing if I do.

Willie Mullins has sent a couple there and they’ll go off very short….and probably win.

Sam Twiston-Davies has a helicopter on stand-by to whizz him south after riding the winners of the 1-35 and 2-05, so that he can get to Newbury to ride Calipto in the Betfair Hurdle.

That’s the first four races there boxed off then!

After that, it’s the three rated races and I’d be happy to work with them, if the ground is genuinely just soft ground with no complications!

I’ll be waiting until I have seen those first four races.

My figures are below without “MY PLAY” advise because right now, I’m happy to just wait for my curry and the match.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE ON THE APP?

I ask those listening to the Podcast yesterday, what they might like to find available to them on the app we are looking to have developed.

It makes common sense really, that we ask those that will be using it what they would find most useful so, if you can think of anything (no matter how off the wall it might seem to you when you think it), send it to me at contact@postracing.net and I’ll give it thought and, if it can work, we’ll see what can be done.

Do not be afraid to think outside the box….be as “weird” as you like!
