Today’s Ratings and Advice 02/01/15

Ron RobinsonYesterday has been filed under “frustrating”. I was due one of those and I’m of an age now where I know and understand that I will not win everyday….that’s impossible.

I used to suffer from the malaise “unrealistic expectation”. I got seriously frustrated when, after several good days, I hit a couple that were not good. That’s when I learned that management of what I did with regards betting, was vitally important.

I guess a comparison comes from the attitude/response of some (a lot), of football fans when their team loses, or draws a game they were winning comfortably.

Liverpool is my team and I “expected” them to beat Leicester at Anfield yesterday, was happy as a pig in wotsit when we went 2-0 up but, Liverpool being Liverpool, we found a way to draw 2-2.

Several folk on Facebook were again calling for the managers head, failing to look at the bigger picture, that being no Premier League Club had accumulated more points than we did over the hectic Christmas period….with no strikers. We were 45 minutes away from getting to within five points of fourth spot and being the only side to secure all nine available points, with a team that barely know each other, with not one striker on the pitch.

If the owners of football clubs did what some fans asked on the day they asked it, yesterday Mourinho, Martinez and Wenger would have joined Rodgers in the phone queue at their local job centres looking to make a claim to unemployment benefit.

Horse racing is absolutely no different. You will sometimes look at a result and wonder how on earth that happened. I’ll use this one from yesterday as an example:

CATTERICK 3-25

One word came to mind as that winner went past the winning port – how? Fact is, these things happen….bit like the club propping up the Premier League coming from 2-0 at Anfield to get a draw.

That winner was supposed to run in an all weather race on the flat at Southwell today but has pulled out “stiff”. Not surprised!

Yesterday, at the age of 12, it won its first race since November 2009. I would not have found that using the most sophisticated of laboratory equipment. Only those playing the -40 system will have done so and “Gary’s Stats” should make for very interesting reading on Monday!

TODAY

We have no fewer than nine rated races to work with today but I’m loathe to offer up a play at Ayr or Ffos Las right now.

I need to see the state of the ground, especially at the Scottish track as they have had some wet stuff hitting them and will have very strong winds blowing around the place this afternoon, too.

Ffos Las right now appears the better option but again, I want to see how the times come out before trusting that the going there is genuinely soft. If it’s Chepstow soft then it’s heavy.

Sean and I will be doing the Podcast this afternoon and it should be live around dinner time. Normality now returns to working patterns…well, it does from Monday. Most people will have a one day working week but I’m now looking to get a fair few things in place that will see you benefitting greatly.

I have told Sean I have a “wish list” of things I want to achieve this year and I’ll share that with you on today’s Podcast. The one thing I can say quite categorically is that none of it is achievable without you.  I keep saying we borrow no money at this end to do anything. It is purely because people like you, reading this, have decided Post Racing is something well worth supporting.

Thank you for doing so.
