Michael Scudamore Intermediate Handicap Hurdle, 14/11/14, Profiled

Ron RobinsonI was, as usual, going to kick off with the fact that nine of the last 10 winners were aged five or six but that only rules out a pair of them so, let’s can that!

Seven of the last 10 had won or placed last time out and I’ll start there:

RIVER DEEP
COMMITMENT
GO WEST YOUNG MAN
BUSTER DAN DAN
MORITO DU BERLAIS

I suppose getting it down to five so quickly isn’t a bad thing…as long as I’m right!

I’m thinking again that carrying a touch of weight won’t help. Only eight of the 43 runners that have contested this over the last 10 years carrying more than 11st 6lb has won or placed….only two have managed the win.

I’ll cull the ones in that first shortlist lumbered with lead:

COMMITMENT
GO WEST YOUNG MAN
BUSTER DAN DAN
MORITO DU BERLAIS

The market is about as much use as a chocolate teapot here and it’s all over the place.

Only two favourites has managed to win in those 10 years I’m looking at and only one in the last six. Two have finished second but I’m not sure I fancy going in short on one here.i

This has me rubbing my chin now but I’ve started so I’ll finish…..as the man said.

Three of the last five winners went off a double figure price and if I accept that as a “rule” then I’m dropping the Nicholls runner:

COMMITMENT
GO WEST YOUNG MAN
BUSTER DAN DAN

I’m again happy to put up a dutch that trio and consider the exotics but if I’m looking for that one to play solo then I’m thinking a six year old (they’ve won the last three), carrying 10st 11b or more (the last four did)….and I’m left with GO WEST YOUNG MAN and BUSTER DAN DAN.

I’m struggling to find an Irish trained winner and so, if you put a gun to my head I’d row in with the Henry Daly runner, GO WEST YOUNG MAN.

Again though, I’m happy just going dutch!
