Today’s Ratings and Advice 14/02/14

My guess is, if the weather forecast is correct, I could have stayed in bed this morning.

I visited the BHA website yesterday afternoon to see if anything had been updated regarding today’s racing and yep, we’d lost one meeting and, we are set to lose Fakenham by around noon….at least close to it….if their worst fears are confirmed.

It had been hoped the forecast wind and rain would arrive after racing had concluded but they have now been advised that it will be a few hours earlier. Winds of up to 50 miles and hour and seriously heavy rain is on its way. The CoC has tried to make light of this suggesting that “car parking will be a challenge”….my guess is they’ll not be doing much by way of parking cars.

The racing is a very poor card anyway. I have two races to look at and one of them is a seller that you would need to be desperate to get involved in. Horses run in sellers for a reason…generally because they are not really up to much and have given their current owners not much more than a monthly bill. The Racing Post describes it as, “a modest affair”….if I had a list of understatements prepared for today, that would top it.

I’ll give you everything I have got for today below but, as with most days this winter, I’m not going anywhere near the Exchanges myself.

ASSUMPTIONS

FAKENHAM – Jump (Updated:13/02/2014 at 08:29:13)
Going
Soft, heavy in places.
(GoingStick: 5.8 on Thursday at 08:30)

Rails
Fresh strip of ground, 8ft, all way around on chase course.

Weather
5mm rain Wed dry overnight (my mistake to have said 3mm rain
overnight)Forecast: Dry, breezy and drying all day Thurs
through to Fri midday. Then rain during Friday afternoon giving
total of 6mm with strong winds (25mph with gusts up to 50mph)

Other
Unfortunately the band of rain and wind is now forecast to come
in at midday on Friday and not late afternoon. The wind and
guests of up to 50mph will be my biggest concern and the drying
out of ground in next 24hrs will be knocked back by the rain. Car
parking will be challenging!
