Rather than send out details of our visit to James Ewart’s Craig Farm stables in a Newsletter I opted to put it on the website so that non-members can also enjoy reading about what a brilliant place it is and who knows, they might then look at joining you.
You can read the piece on the website.
The first week of November is proving very much like the last in September with winners very hard to come by and it is understandable. Because we do not know when, precisely, things will start coming right we should tread cautiously.
I felt the ratings performed well enough yesterday. Kumbeshwar ran a cracker and would have finished third in another stride but he palpably needs further now.
My figures for the 3-50 were pretty much spot on, the top five rated being the first five past the post but Oliver Sherwood will be struggling to get a win out of Arkose this term. The horse gets from one side of a fence to the other but he cannot jump at racing pace to save his life, losing a length at every fence once the pace quickened and he performed a miracle to finish third.
In the last my figures suggested we had the favourite beaten and those using my figures for laying this week are having plenty of fun. My top rated ran a very good race off that long break and he’ll pick up one or two this time around.
I actually sat and watched an all weather race last night because John Standish had selected one running at Kempton and I felt his pain as Robert Tart made a mess of removing the blindfold and his race was done there and then.
So, a winner, a loser, a non-runner and a bit of a cock-up….never mind, John, it’s racing and as I guarantee, we’ll back more losers than winners.
Today we have Chepstow and Warwick to work with and my figures are below.
*MINELLA FOR STEAK….-25
THREE TO DUTCH – MICS DELIGHT, PROMISED WINGS, WOODFORD COUNTY
20/80 – MICS DELIGHT
EXOTICS – MICS DELIGHT, PROMISED WINGS, WOODFORD COUNTY
LAY – MINELLAHALFCENTURY
ADVICE – This is trappy. We have plenty of unexposed ones in here including my suggested lay and they front the tissue here. Horses rated 4, 8, 10 and 15 have just 15 runs between them and therefore are not possible to rate accurately. More a race for watching because of this but I’ll play to my October Rules levels of staking and see what comes back.
ADVICE – A race I myself will ignore for betting purposes. Not a single one has winning form on the ground they will face this afternoon and far to many if’s, buts, and maybes.
*PEUT ETRE SIVOLA….-22
THREE TO DUTCH – LOUGHALDER, SANDYNOW, NOTABOTHERONME
20/80 – LOUGHALDER
EXOTICS – LOUGHALDER, SANDUNOW, NOTABOTHERONME
LAY – NONE
ADVICE – Everything here hinges on my top rated being fit to race after an absence of 206 days…if he is, I believe he wins.
ARTE DEL CALCIO….+4
PRET A THOU….-12
*COURT IN SESSION….-13
ADVICE – A horrible little race. The Racing Post “Verdict” is being polite when it starts it’s piece, “the vast majority of these have serious questions to answer….” I would have just said the vast majority of these are useless and left it at that. If the winner is outside my top six then the owners of those horses must have a kind heart and deep pockets. If you are seriously considering betting here, light a candle, say a prayer and, most probably, kiss your money goodbye. If my figures are right I’ll skip through a hoop or two and count my blessings.
*THE POTTING SHED….+9
ADVICE – A race which revolves around Forest Walker. As mentioned recently when he was rated lowly, we know he is supposed to be a decent piece of kit and he won like one but coming from the PTP field I cannot get a grip on him properly just yet. He is the most likely winner if he turns up here in the form he did at Uttoxeter but I might just try a 20/80 my top rated…simply because I have rated it.
UN BON P’TIT GARS (Chepstow 2-10) – 20/80
That will do for today but if anything comes to light I will let you know in the midday Newsletter, should John Standish have a bet for you.
Best of luck if you are getting involved.
