The day in brief – 19th July 2013

Hoof ItLooks like a quid per non runner would be the quickest way to get rich today but luckily for me there is always a story somewhere I can steal for your education or amusement. Today, Cheltenham led the way after obtaining planning permission for the little matter of a £45 million redevelopment that includes a new Grandstand though as it is being built next to the old one, we wont need to miss a day of action at the headquarters of National Hunt racing I am delighted to say.

Other news cleverly links to the golf with the Lee Westwood owned  (well, part owned) Hoof It on target for the Steward’s Cup at Glorious Goodwood assuming he is not feeling below par (how could I resist)? Having won the race in 2011 we know track and trip are ideal and the Easterby’s report him as good as ever after a couple of breathing operations so write him off at your peril off a rating only a pound higher than his previous victory.

Nothing much else for me to comment on today except for Brendan Powell junior, who won’t know how bad his injury is until the results of a second x-ray – does it really take that long to look at a picture, or are all the experts on holiday or the golf course I wonder?
