Just to remind you that this morning we leave to go and spend a few days with Karen’s son, before he heads off to Afghanistan so tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be a very difficult time for me with regards Newsletters and advice. Much will depend, because of location, on wi-fi availability but I’ll be doing my best to get something out to you each day….I just don’t know when or, how much.
Yesterday again saw the Rating absolutely blitzing the layers with three quick fire top rated winners at 12/1, 10/1 and 5/1….all of which could have been backed at bigger. I did warn you about Copperwood, didn’t I. That is one quirky beast. He wins his races and is one you have to love or loathe….I imagine his owners love him. I do too, after yesterday!
The best thing about those winners yesterday was they were also my own selections for playing so, nobody should have been fumbling in the dark with regards what to do.
Hopefully today adds to the coffers but beware, rain has been falling and a double take on the going descriptions before getting stuck in, is advisable. We have four meetings to look at but very few 4+ year old handicaps. Newbury is all about having a notebook at the ready but I’m sure everyone will join me in wishing Lady Cecil and jockey Pat Cosgrave the best of luck .
I have received a couple of requests recently regarding the structure of the Newsletter and that it would be appreciated if I listed the rated races in time order. I had promised to do that once before but I’m always conscious of time constraints of a morning. I’m going to do this for you from Tuesday of next week and we’ll see how it goes.
I have the first update regarding Marquesa Naranja to pass on over the next couple of days. Rosie’s Lady is seriously enjoying her break and again, I’ll have an update on what her future holds, too.

IF WHAT AND MAYBE….-31
ADVICE – This is about as bad as flat racing gets. Sir Alex Ferguson has a moose on his hands in my top rated, proof being he was beaten at odds on in a four runner race on Guernsey recently. You must decide what you want to do with this one….I’m just glad I’ll be behind a steering wheel!
MAN OF PLENTY….-35
ADVICE – Don’t go near it for punting or laying purposes. I have deliberately got rid of these two races first because they are so poor.
THREE TO DUTCH – COMPTON, EL VIENTO, MISPLACED FORTUNE
20/80 – COMPTON
EXOTICS – COMPTON, EL VIENTO, MISPLACED FORTUNE
LAY – DICK BOS
PERCEIVED DRAW BIAS – High just preferred to middle/low
ADVICE – The three plucked from my top six for my own play have trip, ground and draw just fine. They will do for me.
ECHO OF FOOTSTEPS….-40
ADVICE – If it rains…and only then if it turns the ground soft, would I consider punting my top rated. Common sense dictates (if you must punt this), that MAC TIERNAN is the most likely winner.
§SONG OF PARKES….-40
JUST LIKE HEAVEN….-40
ADVICE – The only play I will have here is a 20/80 ANGELITO. Trip, draw and ground are right and he’s the only horse in this race I can say that about.
AFICIONADO (Newbury 5-05) – 20/80
CAPE OF HOPE (Yarmouth 2-10) – 20/80
CHORD CHART (Nottingham 2-00) – straight win
BET OF THE DAY
LAY OF THE DAY
Have a great day and if you set your Sky+ box to record the meetings at Haydock and Newbury you will definitely be able to spot up a few future winners.
