The two weeks leading up to Cheltenham, in addition to producing my daily work, is spent looking through every single race, at every single horse, and trying to build up that picture. The week of Cheltenham itself is positively scary because I know Karen becomes a racing widow from the Monday to the Friday and yesterday was the first day I surfaced for air. Maybe that sound wasn’t a sigh of relief but the gasp of someone finding oxygen again?
It had been a tough week. Some right funky results were coming along, the off meetings had been a right old mess because of the frosts but yesterday, everything was as it should be. whilst all eyes were (and rightly so), on Prestbury Park, we all landed a monster of a play with that one rated race from Fakenham.

20/80 – ROWLESTONE LAD

Cheltenham to was a good day and I hope everyone took the ante-post advice I sent out regarding ALDERWOOD. That one should have seen those that got involved in the “Special” to more than recoup the monies paid for that. As I have mentioned I will be producing a full blow by blow look back at the entire week and you will receive this asap.
Today I have a nice quiet one. It gives me an opportunity to come back down to earth and also to start working on the things I need to be working on in readiness for our meeting with the Charities in Newmarket next Friday. Representatives from Racing Welfare, Bob Champion Cancer Trust and the IJF will be there and it’s our intention to put before them a package that will encourage them to help us to help them. This package will be shared with you. It will give those currently non-members of Post Racing, an opportunity to see what the “vision” is and to (hopefully), encourage them to get involved. To say we have exciting times ahead would be the biggest understatement of the year so far.
You know the flat season starts next week, don’t you? Unbelievable, isn’t it! I’m sitting here wondering what happened to the NH season to be honest as it never really seemed to get started. You can also tell today is very much “after the Lord Mayors parade” because the main meeting (if you take that to be the centre pages of the Racing Post), is the all weather fixture at Lingfield. It’s the Winter Derby carrying a prize of close to £57k to the winner and those who were around then may remember I rated that race and found us the 5/1 winner, Premio Loco?
ROBIN HOODS BAY….+8
FIELD OF DREAM….-8
My figures suggest we should not be looking for any upsets as my top two front the tissue.
We have three jumps meetings today and as is usual, I will be leaving Ffos Las alone for Ratings purposes because I do not yet have enough data to work with.

20/80 – KAYLIF ARAMIS
EXOTICS – KAYLIF ARAMIS, UBALTIQUE, LACKAMON
LAY – NONE
ADVICE – It is going to be very testing here today….it always is when the rains hit this place and I can only advocate going in with those having that * next to their names. I am happy to play the top three in my top six having that on their CV’s.
*SILVER BY NATURE….-4
FILL THE POWER….-12
*ONE IN A MILAN….-31
CHAC DU CADRAN….-35
YOU KNOW YOURSELF….-37
THREE TO DUTCH – MASTER OVERSEER, COOL OPERATOR, SILVER BY NATURE
20/80 – MASTER OVERSEER
EXOTICS – MASTER OVERSEER, COOL OPERATOR, SILVER BY NATURE
LAY – CHAC DU CADRAN
ADVICE – Two of my top three are less than trustworthy but that is very much reflected in their prices….and that includes my top rated, who is as likely to pull up as win the thing. My feeling here is, it will not be pretty to watch, they’ll be strung out all over Uttoxeter and few will complete….low stakes, absolutely!
THREE TO DUTCH – OPEN HEARTED, TANTE SISSI, GREENLAW
20/80 – OPEN HEARTED
EXOTICS – OPEN HEARTED, TANTE SISSI, GREENLAW
LAY – NONE
ADVICE – If it went soft I would certainly have to revisit this race but, we’ll not know that until after we’ve seen the times of the first couple of races. Right now, I play as indicated.
*THE GOSSMOOR YANK….-40
TWO TO DUTCH – ROSENEATH, GREAT’S AUTRECHENE
20/80 – ROSENEATH
EXOTICS – ROSENEATH, GREAT’S AUTRCHENE
LAY – NONE
ADVICE – Again we really need to see how the rain they get this morning affects the ground but right now I’m happy with my figures and will play as above….with MOLESKIN in for a tricast if the mood takes me.
AWBEG MASSINI (Ffos Las 2-30) – 20/80
MALT MASTER (Kempton 2-50) – straight win
WEST WIZARD (Kempton 5-40) – straight win
GROUSE LODGE (Uttoxeter 2-40) – straight win
FINANCIAL CLIMATE (Uttoxeter 4-25) – straight win
Have a brilliant day and the very best of luck if you are punting!
