I am beginning to think this ownership lark is easy! The New Year has started with the proverbial bang for Post Racing members and 500 Club members in particular. You all knew what was expected from Hiddon Coin yesterday and he delivered. Every man jack of you (and lady, of course!), should have managed to recoup your membership fees for this and next year.
In just three days we have seen our own colours in the winners enclosure, landed a touch off a 500 Club horse and I am now in possession of the names of four horses that will be delivered to 500 Club members today, expected to run very big races. If you are reading this as a Site Member then I strongly urge you to consider upgrading! If you would like to do so, please contact Paul.
This kind of information is what 500 Club members pay a premium for…well, that and the fact they actually own shares and horses outright! We have been chatting to David O’Meara about his arranging a free lease on something very decent for the forthcoming flat season (we certainly could not afford to buy it just yet!!)….and I just know in my water that this is going to be a very special year for both you and Post Racing.
2014 will be even better but, let’s enjoy this one first.
We still very much rely on you, the members, spreading the word about what we are doing here and nobody is working harder than Craig Mitchell in doing that. We have nicknamed him Martini….anytime, any place, anywhere….because whenever we arrange something, he is there, managing the situation for us if we cannot be there ourselves and spreading the word, talking to people, getting things organised and making people listen. Craig pays his annual fees every year, just like everyone else but then puts in a shift. Yesterday he was, after having sipped champagne in the winners room (again), having a drink with several jockeys, trainers etc and they are now all on board. All we have to do is organise a function of some sort to get them all together. I have a plan in my head….all will be revealed soon….the plan, that is!
Thanks again, Craig.
Ben Jenkins has enjoyed the week of a lifetime. He booked a few days at the Wolverhampton Holiday Inn so that he could be there when Rosie ran and, when Hiddon Coin took to the track. He has now been in the winners enclosure twice in three days. I will bet he cannot believe that costs him less than £1 per day! I do know he rang his boss following the in yesterday and booked an extra days leave. He, Craig and the jockeys were out on the town celebrating….paid for by the layers.
I spoke to Simon at Hambleton Racing once we were unsaddled yesterday (Hiddon Coin = WE….not me and Simon), and we spoke about further involvement with them. It will happen. Obviously we want our own horses on the track, in our colours but, the beauty of working with people like Hambleton is a) they are brilliant at sourcing horses b) the pot they accrue means they can look at quality purchases and c) we are privy, as we have been three times now, to Simons amazing ability to handicap juveniles and place a horse to win….then of course, we have David O’Meara. Between them they will keep all 500 Club members in absolute clover. I told David, on Tuesday, that he is a genius at what he does. That was not adrenalin talking, he genuinely is a genius. Take a good look at what he did with horses like Smarty Socks and Pepper Lane. He can not only get very average horses running above their station but his ability to source a race is uncanny. After your horse won yesterday he sent me a text….”I’m liking 2013!!!”….you and me both, mate!!!
So, tell a friend about us, tell them we raised £2000-ish on Tuesday, for the four charities we support (well, Rosie did!), tell then it’s something amazing to be part of and get them involved. I promise you, you will not regret inviting them and they most certainly, if they do, will not regret joining us.
Today is yet another very quiet day on the Ratings front with just two races to work with.
MUSSELBURGH – SOFT, GOOD TO SOFT IN PLACES
* indicates horses having previously won on today’s going conditions.
ANY GIVEN MOMENT….-27
THREE TO DUTCH – SYNDICATION, UNCUT STONE, BENMADIGAN
20/80 – SYNDICATION
EXOTICS – SYNDICATION, UNCUT STONE, BENMADIGAN
LAY – NONE
ADVICE – We enjoyed the New Years Day meeting here very much indeed and hopefully it’s another beano for us today. With just one horse in the field having previously won on soft and with me liking how my figures stack up, I will play as they have fallen. If you fancy just working with VALLANI based on the going, best of luck. You will get no argument from me on that score.
ISLA PEARL FISHER….+8
THREE TO DUTCH – STORMIN EXIT, PENTIFIC, O CROTAIGH
20/80 – STORMIN EXIT
EXOTICS – STORMIN EXIT, PENTIFIC, O CROTAIGH
LAY – NONE
ADVICE – ISLA PEARL FISHER did us a right old turn last time up, loves Musselburgh, is highly rated but, I’m not sure he’ll enjoy the ground (unplaced on all five previous starts on soft). I will work as indicated above, the three selected including the only pair in the race having won on soft and my top rated, who is unplaced on four previous starts on soft, having won on good, good to soft and heavy, making his debut for the McCain team.
VIVA COLONIA (Musselburgh 2-10) – 20/80
REV UP RUBY (Musselburgh3-40) – 20/80
In the 2-10 race we have a horse that has recently left David O’Meara’s care, VIVA COLONIA. He once told me this horse was going to be his Arkle. He has lost him to Brian Ellison and whilst the reasons for that move are daft, I expect a big run from the horse today, given Brian has a 50% strike rate with chasers here (4-8) and that Danny Cook, who rides this afternoon, is 4-12 for the Ellison yard at Musselburgh. If David’s assessment is even 10% close to the truth, he’ll go close to winning that race today.
Have a brilliant day and the very best of luck if you are betting.
